This was an interesting premise but the execution really didn't cut it - I'm not a huge fan of love triangles， but especially when it's exceedingly obvious who the protagonist （in this case Marguerite） is going to end up with （Paul）。 The whole thing was kind of predictable and her reasons for believing Paul was the killer to begin with were very weak， plus from the get-go you kind of knew that she was never going to kill him。 We were promised a high-stakes chase across dimensions， and that's not This was an interesting premise but the execution really didn't cut it - I'm not a huge fan of love triangles， but especially when it's exceedingly obvious who the protagonist （in this case Marguerite） is going to end up with （Paul）。 The whole thing was kind of predictable and her reasons for believing Paul was the killer to begin with were very weak， plus from the get-go you kind of knew that she was never going to kill him。 We were promised a high-stakes chase across dimensions， and that's not really what we got - everything got a bit too much bogged down with the romance， we didn't really explore the dimensions we did see overmuch， and I didn't really care for the characters。 In short， not for me。 。。。more

I picked up this book intrigued by the idea of parallel universes and the possibility of experiencing them through some sophisticated， yet not entirely impossible， technology。Instead， I got some fantasy romance that was as much about science as Twilight is。 I got reminded why I usually avoid Young Adult like the plague。The writing was bad。 Yes， I know some people say they liked it but it felt way too simplistic - too many filter words， too much repetition。 It seemed written by a 15-year-old， whi I picked up this book intrigued by the idea of parallel universes and the possibility of experiencing them through some sophisticated， yet not entirely impossible， technology。Instead， I got some fantasy romance that was as much about science as Twilight is。 I got reminded why I usually avoid Young Adult like the plague。The writing was bad。 Yes， I know some people say they liked it but it felt way too simplistic - too many filter words， too much repetition。 It seemed written by a 15-year-old， which I know the author isn't。 This isn't her first book， is it？ I'm not familiar with her works， so I don't know。The explanations of the "science"， if you can even call it that way， were shallow and vague at best。 A certain component of the Firebird is made from "a type of metal that can only be found in a single valley on the planet"。 What metal？ Which valley？ We never get those questions answered。Every time a scientific explanation is supposed to come up， the protagonist Meg cuts it short for being "too complicated for her"， so we never hear it。 Basically， we are forced to accept that the Firebird works because the author was too lazy to do proper research it just does。And yet， in the end， everyone calls Meg smart。 Smart who？ Meg？ She is one of the dumbest characters I've ever come across。 She can't get her priorities straight even after her father has been murdered。 No， instead， she is too busy swooning over his alleged murderer。 *facepalm*I don't have anything else to say。 Well， I do but I don't think it's worth wasting my time。 。。。more
